CHARACTER
NAME: Armitage Hux
CANON: Star Wars
AGE: 34
CANON POINT: Post The Last Jedi

HISTORY: here To be noted: His early life/dealing with his father. Things that aren't covered within the films, but shaped his life a great deal.

PERSONALITY:
Hux is a man so tightly wound it is a wonder he hasn’t exploded, by now. The bastard son of Brendol Hux, Armitage Hux was raised by droids in his early childhood, as his father thought he was, “ weak-willed boy. Thin as a slip of paper and just as useless,” and while he had potential, was not worthy of direct time until he was a bit older. His father abandoned his mother when Hux was three, and he is keenly aware of it--it is one of the few weaknesses he responds to, directly--which is why he reacts so violently when Poe Dameron makes the ‘your mom’ joke. He goes from vaguely annoyed/collected to full on furious when Poe picks at the chink in his armor.

Brendol Hux thought the best way to train Armitage was through physical and mental abuse; Brendol believed in survival of the fittest to the most extreme degree, and his son was not spared from that ideology. Hux was only saved from the abuse by Rae Sloane, who became his protector, his mentor, who raised him to become ruthless. Through all of this, Hux was told that he was destined for great things--to lead the new Order, to Rule, to help bring the Galaxy out of it’s new dark times.

That upbringing has instilled in him that Power is the only way to truly be strong, and that any sign of compassion is weakness. He has always been well aware that he will never be a strong as others, so instead he has used his mind to get ahead. Hux is highly intelligent and is ruthless--he rose quickly through the ranks of the First Order by employing ‘technological terror’ to take out any of his rivals. He is a man who harbors grudges as well, and after all his father did to him, he waited until the time was right, and then employed Captain Phasma to assassinate him in an incredibly painful way, making sure his father’s last sight was his face gloating over him.

Like any person raised in a cult, Hux is also highly fanatical about the First Order. He believes in the cause completely, and believes that the ends justify the means in every way--even if that means committing genocide an entire System. He believes that order and control need to be restored, and that the New Republic, the Resistance--they represent chaos in the worst way, and have spread famine and terrible things in the Galaxy, and it is his duty, his destiny to bring things back to their rightful place. How could the rabble ever know what they truly want? Freedom is a lie, and only the First Order can truly give people what they need. So yes, he will bring death and destruction, but he believes it is the only way. Because he knows best. Because he is better than them--a thought born out of years of feeling inadequate, and having to cover up so many of his own internal weaknesses and fears. He will lead the Galaxy back down it's rightful path, even if he has to destroy millions to do so--without a single thought of remorse.

He’s highly intelligent, having both helped develop the Starkiller, and engineer the hyperdrive-tracking system. He is a tactical genius (according to the visual dictionary), and it is made clear by the way that he anticipates the movements of the Resistance and while he loses battles, he is winning the war. He also took his father’s Stormtrooper program and perfected it into something even better than it was. He is the true ‘mind’ of the First Order.

Hux is cold, calculating and cunning--but the rare times he loses his temper and cool, it is associated with the Force Users in his life: Snoke and Kylo Ren. Both he and Ren have vied for attention from Snoke like two men looking for approval from a father (given both men’s father issues, it’s not a surprise), but for Hux, especially, it’s a struggle. Hux’s title should be Grand Marshall, not General, but Snoke refused to promote him, helping to keep his foot down on Hux, to make him feel inadequate. In response, Hux pushed himself harder, using a technology he innovated from old Empire schematics to almost single handedly destroy the Resistance. In the face of defeat, each time, Hux rises to the occasion and finds a way to turn it to his advantage.

Even if it means facing humiliation, and taking a blow.

This especially applies to Kylo Ren. Since the Knight of Ren appeared on the scene, their relationship has been acrimonious and combative, a competition of who can one up the other. After Rey knocks Ren out, Hux was more than ready to shoot him dead--until he stirred. It was his one chance, and he missed it. The play for the throne is made, and the role he so rightfully deserves--Supreme Leader--is taken by the usurper.

Hux faces humiliations after this, but he still is sarcastic, sardonic, and tries to assert himself in different ways, both by trying to temper Ren, and pressing his own will, to varying success. The look he gives Ren at the end of The Last Jedi, however, makes it clear that like all people who have crossed him, he will not let such slights stand for long.

POWERS:

Hux is highly intelligent, adept in technical/mechanical engineering, and all things technological. He created a hyperspace tracking system from old schematics, and was able to create the starkiller. He is canonly known to use 'technological terror' and is supposed to be a tactical mastermind when it comes to troop movements. Of course, some of this is on paper only, as the First Order is still in it's relative infancy, and most of his work requires high functioning technology, but he is able to adapt if necessary.

MISC
PLANS: Hux genuinely wants to help/join The Regency. Now that might change the longer he stays, but he really wants to work as a double agent/spy/do things to help the other side. After all, The Regency sounds like his beloved First Order, and he's basically been raised in that cult, and breaking him from that cult-like environment isn't going to happen overnight.
ITEM: Hux would like to have his blaster
CHARACTER @ID SUGGESTIONS: Control. It's basically what he's all about
HOW DID YOUR CHARACTER JOIN COST?

Hux is joining as a 'double agent' of sorts--so yes, he would have accepted, but he has ulterior motives. He doesn't believe in the COST cause--he believes in what The Regency is doing. But until he can gain contact, or switch sides, he will commit subterfuge and gain as much intelligence on COST as possible--the way of the Rebellion is not his way. The way of Order and Control.
